Закон о свободе вероисповедания американских индейцев 1978 года
Федеральный законодательный акт, защищающий и поддерживающий неотъемлемое право индейцев и других коренных американцев и гавайцев на традиционные религиозные верования и обряды, в том числе на использование характерных для таких обрядов предметов и наркотика мескалин [peyote], а также на посещение священных мест. До принятия закона свободу вероисповедания этой категории граждан мог защищать только Конгресс [Congress, U.S.]. Закон, хотя и поставил права коренных американцев под защиту Первой поправки [First Amendment], не предусматривал конкретных мер и фактически не имел практического значения и был заменен более эффективным Законом о свободе вероисповедания коренных американцев 1993 года [Native American Free Exercise of Religion Act]
